If you’re looking to upgrade your PC from Windows XP to Windows 7 when it ships, don’t look to
Microsoft. The company has officially stated that it will not support upgrading from Windows XP to
Windows 7. Instead, look to Laplink.
Laplink has announced that beginning October 1st it will release a special version of its
PCmover application for under $20. The special version, dubbed PCmover Upgrade Assistant, will
offer users the ability to upgrade from Windows 2000, XP, or 32-bit Vista to Windows 7 64-bit,
without losing any data or having to reinstall their applications.
I’ve used PCmover in the past when upgrading from XP to Vista and have to say that it was a
seamless experience. At the time the only hangup I encountered was with Microsoft Outlook, but that
bug has since been squashed.
It’s not clear what “under $200 means, but it’s definitely worth the price if you want to
upgrade from XP to Windows 7, which I’m sure a lot of users do.Read more about PCmover at
